What is the process of water ionisation?
With an ioniser, it is possible to conduct an electrolysis reaction and obtain alkaline and acidic water as a result. The process of electrolysis is induced by electric voltage applied to electrodes (cathode and anode). Then, a separation of alkaline metal ions and hydroxyl residues from acid residues takes place. The cathode gets alkaline cations, whereas the anode – acidic anions. As a result, alkaline water (containing e.g. magnesium, sodium, potassium and calcium ions) and acidic water (containing e.g. chloride, sulphur, sulphide, phosphorus and hydrogen ions) is produced.

As far as the degree of simplicity of using the device is concerned, it is best to chose ionisers with an uncomplicated user’s manual and simple process of obtaining ionised water. Remember to check if the manual is in your language.
The greater functionality of the ioniser, the more opportunities offered by the device. Classical ionisers are primarily used to produce alkaline and acidic water. A device may have even 9 electrodes but it would be inefficient if their surface is small. It is a good idea to check which model has lower power consumption and which one has a standby mode. You can also verify which model has SMPS – a system reducing power consumption while using the device.
Another important parameter is the water flow, or performance of the device. Although it may seem that ionisers with the largest water flow would be the best, don’t be misguided. It would be the best to choose a device with the average flow of 1-1.5 l/min. It is believed that such ionisers work most efficiently, meaning that they produce the best quality water. This is due to the relatively longer time in which water “dwells” on the electrode of the ioniser, which results in much better ORP and pH values.
